Hello, 2017! I am almost embarrassed to say that this is my first post of the year. December is a huge month in our house! Both my kids were born in December and with Christmas and birthday parties it gets pretty hectic around here and now I feel like I’m fully recovered! Thanks for being here and let’s talk about something I am VERY passionate about— Tight lining!
What is tight lining?
Tight lining your eyes is the pro-tip to making your lashes look fuller and your eyes POP. Tight lining is great for a smoky eye or natural makeup look. When done properly it looks like you aren’t even wearing eyeliner at all. Personally, there are two must-haves to tight lining.
- A small angled or detailer brush. I cannot recommend the Smashbox double-ended smudger brush enough. It has a very tiny soft brush that lines the inner parts of your eyes perfectly without irritating them. This brush is so versatile with the other end having a spongy tip that’s great for smudging and smoking out a gel liner.
- A waterproof gel liner. I see a lot of makeup artists using a pencil when tight lining. Yes, a pencil works great for tight lining, however, I just don’t feel like they are waterproof enough or last very long at all. I’ve tried tons of black liners to tight line my eyes and all of them have lasted me about a minute. My all time favorite gel liner is Smashbox Jet Set waterproof liner in black. This liner is hands down the best for tight lining and for lining the water line.
How to tight line?
For tight lining, you’ll want to dip your brush into your gel liner and gently wiggle or line the inner rims of your eyes focusing on your lash line to close the gap and make your lashes look fuller. Try to apply the liner where ever you have lashes. For wide-set eyes, you may want to stop before you get to the inner corner to avoid making the eyes look closed off or smaller. Tight lining is also a great trick for hooded eyes.
These two bad boys were definitely my most used products in 2016. You can catch me doing this every day and if I go out of town you better believe they are in my makeup bag. So, let me tell you I love my Smashbox…but, I have found an awesome dupe you guys! Maybelline eyestudio gel liner is about $10 and the best part…you get a brush with it similar to the Smashbox one! This is amazing stuff here. I tried it and the eyestudio gel is pigmented and lasted all day. Maybelline eyestudio gel is almost a richer black than the Smashbox one. I feel like this is a major win today!
What do you think? I look forward to posting more dupes for everyone!
Until next time!
